Client

Our client is a New York–based company providing innovative solutions in the field of online education. They design next-generation interactive programs and platforms for teachers and students, widely adopted across schools in the United States. The company promotes a people-centric culture with a flat structure, valuing open communication and collaboration. They follow solid engineering practices with a strong focus on technology excellence, using the latest frameworks, tools, and development standards.

Project overview

The project extensively uses AWS cloud, Lambdas, containers, infrastructure as a code, SQL, and NoSQL storage, and the latest versions of languages and tools. Some teams are more product-oriented and build outstanding student-facing applications, and some teams own shared components and services used by other products.

Responsibilities

Design and manage AWS-based infrastructure using Terraform, ensuring scalability, reliability, and cost-efficiency;
Lead the migration of a WordPress-based platform to AWS, including infrastructure setup, data migration, and performance optimization;
Configure and maintain web server environments (Apache/Nginx) and support PHP-based applications in production;
Implement monitoring, logging, and alerting using DataDog to ensure high availability and system performance;
Apply cloud security best practices, including IAM, network security, and access control;
Identify and respond to security risks and incidents (e.g., traffic spikes, suspicious activity, vulnerabilities);
Build and maintain containerized environments using Docker where applicable;
Automate operational tasks using Bash and Python scripting;
Collaborate with client and internal teams to deliver stable and reusable cloud solutions.

Requirements

Strong experience with AWS (EC2, RDS, VPC, IAM, CloudWatch, etc.);
Hands-on experience with Terraform (or similar IaC tools);
Solid Linux administration and networking fundamentals;
Experience with monitoring and observability (logs, metrics, alerts);
Scripting skills (Bash and/or Python);
Practical experience deploying or migrating PHP-based applications (e.g., WordPress);
Basic understanding of web server configuration (Apache or Nginx);
Hands-on experience with Docker (building and managing containers);
Good spoken English.

Nice to have

Experience with WordPress migrations to AWS or similar cloud platforms;
Experience handling security incidents and implementing mitigation strategies (e.g., rate limiting, WAF, access controls);
Understanding of cloud security best practices (IAM, network security, WAF, etc.);
Experience with serverless/containerized environments (Lambda, ECS);
Experience with SQL/NoSQL databases.
