The Proggy-Buggy Contest Olympiad is gaining momentum

On November 12, DataArt held the ninth International Сompetitive Programming Olympiad - Proggy-Buggy Contest 2022.

The Olympiad was held in a hybrid format: contestants from Vinnytsia, Lviv, Yerevan, Tbilisi, Nur-Sultan, Almaty, and Karaganda competed at DataArt development centers, where they solved 13 problems in 42 minutes, and contestants from other locations participated online.

Here are some numbers:

  • 1400 team and individual registrations (compared to 938 registrations last year).
  • 1767 contestants.
  • 34 countries: Albania, Austria, Argentina, Bangladesh, Bulgaria, Brazil, Great Britain, Armenia, Georgia, Denmark, Iran, Ireland, Spain, Italy, Canada, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Colombia, Latvia, Malaysia, Netherlands, Germany, UAE, Pakistan, Poland, Serbia, Tajikistan, Turkey, Uzbekistan, Ukraine, Uruguay, France, Montenegro, Czech Republic.

This year, we introduced two additional categories to more accurately reflect participants’ experience in international programming competitions. Competitions took place in the following categories:

  • STUDENTS — school students over 16 years old, with a Codeforces rating of 1399 or below
  • AMATEURS — contestants without National Student Olympiad (ACM ICPC) experience, with a Codeforces rating of 1599 or below.
  • PROFESSIONALS – contestants that have previously participated in the National Student (ACM ICPC), School (IOI) Programming Olympiad or other programming competitions, with a Codeforces rating of 1600 or above.
  • SUPERHEROES - participants and finalists of previous years' National Student (ACM ICPC) or School (IOI) Programming Olympiad or other programming competitions, with a Codeforces rating of 2400 or above.

Another great news was that the Proggy-Buggy Contest Olympiad won the All-Ukrainian HR-brand 2022 award in the "Best project for attracting talented youth" category.

Students from Ukraine continue to receive privileges — winners and Olympiad participants receive additional points for their student rating and increase their chances of achieving a maximum scholarship.

In line with DataArt’s shutdown of its Russian operations, Russian nationals were not allowed to participate.

Winning positions in the Students and Amateurs categories were mostly occupied by this year's debutants. In the Professionals and Superheroes categories, there was a fierce battle among experienced participants.
