Our client is a leading U.S. education company that has been transforming K–12 learning since 2000. They create next‑generation curriculum and formative assessment solutions, offering interactive products designed for both teachers and students. Their programs support learners from elementary through high school and are used in all 50 states, across 21,000+ schools, serving over 10 million students.

Technology stack

Cloud & Infrastructure: AWS (AppSync, Lambda), Serverless, Terraform, Datadog

Responsibilities

Design, implement, and maintain scalable, high-performance backend services using Node.js and TypeScript
Develop and optimize RESTful APIs and GraphQL integrations
Lead technical decisions related to backend architecture, scalability, and system reliability
Identify and resolve performance, scalability, security, and reliability issues across distributed systems
Participate in and drive code reviews, architectural discussions, and technical improvements
Improve system observability, monitoring, logging, and error handling
Collaborate closely with frontend engineers, QA, DevOps, and product stakeholders
Ensure high code quality through testing, documentation, and CI/CD practices

Requirements

10+ years of professional software development experience
5+ years of hands-on experience with Node.js backend development
Strong experience building scalable backend systems and APIs
Experience with database technologies (ideally NoSQL DBs and MongoDB)
Experience deploying and maintaining production systems in AWS cloud environments
Experience with serverless architectures and infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform is a plus)
Experience (professional or personal) with using and integrating modern AI coding technologies such as LLMs, Model Context Protocol, Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, etc.
Strong problem-solving ability and experience working within complex systems and large codebases
Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work independently in a self-driven environment
